Default the suspense!!!

I'm very excited. I planted them last year and I was worried when I only
had about 3 vines on each plant. But they have grown to about 10 feet and
have so many branches coming off those original vines and then those
branched off, etc! SO there is a TON of new growth this year and it is
just covered in buds. I think they started about 1-2 weeks ago and while
there are a ton of tiny new buds there are some big hefty ones that must
be near maturity.

On roses, they're called canes, not vines.

I am very pleased because it is my first attempt and these were cheap
plants from Home Depot.

You were smart to pick a hardy variety.

I had read about different roses, own-root roses, lots of
posts on here and I new it was a gampble doing it the way I did. I was
hoping that a beginner like myself would at least have *hope* if I found
New Dawn LOL

If I did it again I would've gotten 2 different varieties to cover the
trellis rather than 2 of the same (and I probably only needed 1)

Some rose varieties seem to do well no matter
where you find them. New Dawn is probably
one of those. Mine grew like a weed, and has
some very thick canes. It survived when I
killed other roses early in my experience.

On my arbor I have New Dawn on one side
and Don Juan on the other. Don Juan has a
beautiful big red bloom but the plant isn't doing
well. But when it blooms it's a nice contrast to
New Dawn.

BTW here's the zone map. You can search
on your state and county:
