Breeding is well over. At this time of year they are hunting, and I'd
guess the garden has a reasonable cover of vegetation and damp ground,
good for both bugs and shelter.

Ah, I didn't see a limited time frame given to the plague of frogs.
I suppose that in spring they're looking for a breeding place and now
they're looking for food and shelter etc.
