Default slug and snail control

Does anyone know of an effective organic snail and slug control or atleast a
solution that relies on less pesticide.

Too bad the French don't eat slugs in addition to snails, eh? The cash
crop potential would be enormous. Seriously though...

Here are the main things you want to do:

.. Eliminate areas near the plot you are trying to protect that slugs can
hide. Tall grasses, weedy areas, or ground cover. (This may not always be
practical but goes a long way if you can take this step)

.. Slugs don't like to move across dry ground - watering in the morning and
letting the surface of the soil dry out will help as well.

.. Slugs don't like rough surfaces - using a rough mulch such as bark or
crushed nut shells will discourage them as well.

I don't bait at all and use only these methods, along with occasional human
predatory control, and I haven't had serious problems.
