Default when to buy...

"jellyfish" wrote

hi guys, totally new to this gardening stuff garden but have done alot
of reading online and have just bought a house with a nice size garden
have prepared my vegetable patch i would just like some advice on
"when" to buy and "when" to plant..i have no greenhouse so will be
starting seeds indoors?..im looking to grow runner beans, carrots,
potatoes, and hopefully cucumbers?...any advice would be really helpful

May I suggest you send to some seed catalogues which will show you the
varieties available and lots more information besides. Sowing information is
usually on the packet and you will learn from experience when you can plant
for your own area of the UK, as a rule of thumb plant early for the south
and later for the north, but there are exceptions.
Garlic should be in already but you could probably get away with planting
some now. Broad Beans we used to plant in January. Shallots, onion sets and
early peas in February/March .......
May I suggest you get a good book on veg gardening which will help you over
the initial learning stage.
