Default State of the Pond in Winter

We've been below freezing since Monday here in S.Central Washington(State),
Stock tank heater (1,000 watt) has been turned on ever since. Currently koi
pond is sitting at 40ish. The lily pond, with one of those new low watt
heaters (100 watt) is sitting at 37F. We had a few flurries of snow, but
nothing that stuck around for long. :-( I've been looking forward to a 2
hour delay all week, but no go.

Anyway I did a water quality check on the ponds, no ammonia, pH 7.8 and KH
at 8 drops, so all things are excellent so far. I did a water change just
before this cold snap hit.

Oh, I also purchased some of those small chemical hand warmers, just in
case my siphon needs refreshing and my little brass spigot is frozen. Toss
one under the insulating tube and it should thaw it out (at least that's
the plan). :-) ~ jan
