I'm one of the proponents of a moderated group. In the fairly near future
there should be an RFD in news.groups.proposals about the group. For those
who may not know, RFD stands for Request For Discussion about the moderated
group. All modifications and proposed changes should be made in
news.groups.proposals. I know ngp is a new group and is moderated and all
that, but try to use it. It's not like folks won't be trying to follow
discussions, it's just that it's more likely folks will notice suggestions
in ngp. If you do encounter any problems, feel free to email me.

There has been some speculation as to who the moderators are. They are
*proposed* moderators, it isn't written in stone or anything. But very
likely they will indeed be the moderators, initially. Why? Because they
"stepped up to the plate," so to speak. It hasn't been a whole lot of fun
writing and re-writing parts of this RFD. There have been some pretty days
recently, but these folks were inside hammering out details about the
rationale or procedures for moderation. It isn't an ego rush to check out
and evaluate several "moderation" software platforms. Why has it all been
done in secret? Simply to get things done, and besides, it isn't all
*that* secret. Basically it's a bunch of people who wanted to talk about
their ponds (and fish, and plants, and...just read the charter) and
couldn't, so they got together to make a place where people could talk
about ponds (etc.). That's the Sinister Secret Cabal.
