Ducted refridgerative air conditioners are more expensive
than evaporative systems at the moment. Small split
systems are becoming quite cheap, and there is something
to be said for cooling only the room which is being used,
instead of trying to keep the whole house cool.

The old-fashioned window or wall mounted systems are
even cheaper, but noisy and ugly.
