Default Soil Test Kits/Meters

I have one of those inexpensive combined moisture/ph testing meters.

Out of vulgar curiosity, why do you need one? If it's just for fun,
great; but it won't improve your gardening.

Because I'd like to know if I need to add lime and how much, for
growing brassicas on my acid soil.

Maybe I can save you the trouble. The quantity you need is "some"!
Unless you've already limed well in the past couple of years, in which
case results will tell you whether you need one of those other precise
quantities, "none" or "a bit more". Honestly, I'm not being frivolous
he it's actually difficult to analyse accurately with amateur
equipment, and if there are no clues from previous years' performance or
from what all your neighbours are doing, you may as well just do a bit
this year and see how it goes.
