Default Golden Gate Orchids - Dendrobium Lavender Star - lovely burgundy flowers

LOL! Well, as always, case selection determines results. I've had more
success with things like Masd Redwing and Masd John Tomascke.
(http://www.aospacificcentral.org/Oak...tomaschke.html) I think
the leaves are a little more leathery (water storage) than someof the finer
ones like most of the Angel Frost line. (If I'd water occasionally I'd have
better success even still! LOL!) Golden Gate has a Masd Cinnamon Twist that
I've been a-hankering for, it has (I think) abacayana in the background and
so is a bit more tolerant.

Tom,

What Kathy said!

Seriously, she's got the best "from the horse's mouth" advice for your
area.

Tom,

Yup, it is. BUT - the flower is a little less than an inch across, about
2
inches counting the tails. BUT BUT - a well grown plant can be covered
in
flowers.

It is a cool grower and will drop leaves if the nightime temp is too
high.

There are more and more warmth tolerant Masdevallias out there - you'll
have
fun growing them!

Great series, Eric. Is the M. glandulosa as nubbly as it looks? I have
to
learn how to grow Masdevallias.

Thanks for the response. I'm fine during the cool months, and at night
most
any time of year, but Summer afternoon and evening temps in my GH can at
times get up to 90s F. Does that preclude Masdevallias?
