Aren't lichens & mushrooms opportunistic, i.e. don't they grow on diseased
and decaying wood?

shrubs whatsoever.

If something is killing your trees, it is something else.

If you still insist upon removing them, spray your plants with diluted
liquid chlorine bleach.
