I recently bought three. (Sorry I can't recall what brand they are as a
builder friend got them for me). They are of the 'new' design you mention
and cost about £45 each and are extremely well made. Naturally the wood is
terated.

The stability will depend more on how you erect them.

Use 4x4 treated timber for the supporting posts. Put them at least 18in into
the ground. Concrete them in.

We live on the edge of a cliff and they have already survived winds up to
60mph.

NB If your area is windy, go for the type that has lapping on alternate
sides, where the wind can get between the gaps to break the pressure.
