Default Manor Gardens Allotments petition

"Janet Tweedy" wrote
Manor Gardens Allotments are due to be demolished to make way for the 2012
Olympics(in spite of being granted the land in perpetuity ) and have
pleaded with the London Develop Agency to incorporate the
allotments into the overall plan. The allotmenteers have been offered an
alternative temporary site at some distance - too far for most users. They
are due to be evicted on 2 April.
I have no objection to the Olympics at all, but it seems tragic to lose
this community facility.

Cleve West wrote in The Independent recently about it. More details on
www.lifeisland.org
which also gives links to the Downing St petition against its move.

Boshers Allotments in Egham where given to the people by a wealthy local
Landowner decades ago in perpetuity but they have now been built on and the
plot holders given a new site some way along the same road on some Green
Belt land owned by the Council. The cynic in me says how long before it
happens again because that once Green Belt land is now a brown field site
and there is plenty of Council owned GB land along that road. Councils work
in mysterious ways.
