Default ALOE VARIEGATA

My daughter perchased the above from the Eden Project in October
2005. It is now flowering and also has a 'baby' growing at the side
of it.
It is in a three and a half inch pot at present, how should we look
after it from now on?

Your daughter's Aloe variegata is at the moment best grown in house where
the air is dry. They don't do well grown in greenhouses where the humid air
and general dampness often rots the roots. However, aloes DO like being well
watered, outdoors in full sunshine during the summer. I repot my aloes
annually around April, increasing the pot size as they grow, using JI No.2
potting compost. The 'baby' can then be removed from the parent, allowing
the cut to dry for a few days before potting up, again using JI No.2
compost.
