Try an own root old rose. I put some in, because I had extra from my
garden, and I had seen them in old prairie cemeteries. I'm sure the
apothecary rose is one. And Texas has more of the hot weather ones, than
any other state.

Lots of them date back to the 1600s or so. The Crusaders who brought them
back generally didn't say where they came from - at least in my opinion.
Just put it up aways from the pond, and see if it creeps down to the water.
