Default Old slate roof tiles as decorative mulch or any other garden use ???

Hi there,
I've found a huge stack of old slate roof tiles in the corner of my
shed and was wondering if they could be of any use in the garden ? I
am all for recycling and thought perhaps they could be put to use as
some kind of decorative mulch. Is this a feasible idea ? Perhaps
someone could suggest other practical garden uses for the tiles. I
would appreciate any imaginative solutions !
Thanks very much.

Uncle.

Years ago i used to stick a slate in the soil in front of some young
plants to block the noon sun, thus reducing water consumption and
enable them to survive.

A nicer use might be for patios & paths, lay concrete and press the
slates on while its wet.
