Default Sloping lawn

Hi - we've bought a house with a sloping lawn - I guess it slopes 4 or 5 feet in 30 in a fairly constant slope. We are having a patio/terrace built and want to know the best way of getting a decent bit of level lawn for the kids to play on. Do we put another retaining wall further down and backfill to have a narrower lawn or (my preference) have a steeper slope to lose the height in (say) 5 or 6 feet at the top then have a flat bit?

The problem at the moment is the slope's pretty constant, which means it's not particularly useable to play on - but I'm not sure how feasible it is to have a steep (say 45 degree) slope.

Anyone flattened a slopy lawn?
