Default Closed and open cycles in gardening

this is also true of all tropical rainforests. the nutrients are tied up in the
biota. a very interesting story is how in China when family came from area with good
dirt they would bring a sack of theirs to add to the rocky terraced areas and
gradually the terraced areas would produce, but only by most extreme conservation.

I read an interesting account of closed cycle habitat recently, it related
to Australian forests. Aussie soil is very old and long had most of its
nutrients leached. Forests survived via a process of recycling nutrients
many times over as decaying leaves/trees returned nutrients to the soil to
be reused by new growth.
