Yes, but they require lots of feeding and lots of water. It can be
difficult to keep up with the wather on a hot, sunny day.

Is the height and flower size important to you? There are dwarf
sunflowers around which grow to about 2 ft and have several flowers
about 4inches across rather than a single dinner plate. They're a bit
easier to grow in a pot.

All sunflowers are prime slug fodder.
