What do you do with the trapped 'coon?

Mine go in the witness protection program. :-)

I like to tell people that I relocate them to more affluent
neighborhoods. That ****es them off

I like it - can I use it ? chuckle I used to drop them off at the IBM
plant where I last worked.

In most enlightened communities it is illegal for private citizens to
relocate wild animals.

The first one shows even the pros can't just trap and release...

http://www.spcb.state.tx.us/Bulletin/racoon.htm

....The SPCB was contacted by the Austin (TX) Nature and Science Center
concerning a recent overpopulation of raccoons possibly resulting from
relocation of nuisance animals. Pest management professionals performing
wildlife removal services are reminded that a permit from the Texas
Parks and Wildlife Department is required for transporting protected
wildlife such as raccoons. Permission of the landowner is required for
releases. Also, you should consult the Texas Department of Health
concerning rabies quarantine information. For more information see:

....While he understands that raccoons can be a nuisance, Kevin Newsome,
an Ohio wildlife officer assigned to Lucas County, said yesterday that
what Mr. Green is doing is illegal.

Mr. Newsome said state law requires anyone who traps a raccoon to either
have it euthanized or quarantined for 30 days. Mr. Green¢s relocation
activities are considered fourth-degree misdemeanors under Ohio law,
punishable by a maximum $250 fine and 30 days in jail, he said.

There is a bit of a catch in the law: only licensed wildlife
rehabilitators may quarantine raccoons because the state is concerned
with the spread of rabies and other diseases. However, Mr. Newsome said
Lucas County¢s lone rehabilitator, Nature¢s Nursery, has stopped keeping
the often nocturnal omnivores on its property.....

Ok, Ohio is one state. There are others, I've no doubt, but not /most/.
I've never heard of /one/ case of someone being arrested/convicted/fined
for live trapping a nuisance raccoon and translocating them, instead of
shooting them on the spot (which, OTOH, makes news occasionally).

"Live traps: Nuisance animals may also be removed by landowners (or their
designees) at any time without a Depredation Permit. Trapping in towns must
be in compliance with municipal ordinances. Live-trapped wildlife must be
released unharmed outside the municipality ¢s boundaries within 24 hours
except nuisance furbearers are not required to be released alive. Live
traps must have the trapper ¢s name and address or his vehicle operator ¢s
license number or the current vehicle license number registered to the trap
user."

....Keep in mind that relocating animals to public land is against
Florida law. A nuisance animal trapper licensed by the Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission may relocate animals to private lands when he or
she has the permission of the landowner.....

It's not a statewide law in Florida, it's regional.

......limited periods of time. California
Department of Fish & Game Regulations prohibit the relocation
of raccoons and other wildlife without written permission of the
Department. For further information on the legal status of
raccoons and other wildlife, contact your California Department
of Fish & Game Regional Office....

California doesn't count. It's/they're too weird. =P

I translocate small game weekly at work. It's part of my job. I prefer it
to exterminating the animals. It's also not a crime, here.
