Anybody know what kind of*bush this is? The bush is thorny, like a
raspberry bush. It is low growing and has a bunch of small,
crabapple-sized bright red fruits.
It is in Zone 7/Virginia. See photo at

The presence of the remains of the calyx at the apex of the fruit
characterises two groups in Rosaceae - Maloideae (apples, pears, etc.,
etc.) and Roseae (Rosa and segregates).

No maloid with ternate or pinnate leaves, and thorny stems, comes to
mind, so I'd suggest a rose - perhaps Rosa rugosa. If you open up the
fruit you should be able to tell whether it is a pome or cyanorhodion
(hip).
