IME computer system designers get it wrong far more often than their
customers
do, especially with big systems.

I can't dispute that big systems are very hard to get right. However, few
big systems have a single coherent 'customer' which makes the design a
compromise between competing (and often contradictory) sets of
requirements.

I worked on and managed the procurement of several big systems with one
coherent
customer, what the customer wants is constrained by the implementers
desire to
use state of the art off the shelf crap that has poor performance and a
user
interface and functionality, which doesn't match the customers
requirements.

Ah, like going to Dixon's used to be!
