Default Planting from seeds

I purchased some seed packets of forget-me-not's and asylum and they
said you could start them indoors or just in the ground. I live in N. VA
and the weather is in the mid 60's in the day now and will only go up.
Can I plant them directly in the ground?

I would like to plant them out front where they will get morning direct
sun and afternoon indirect sun. There are some bushes in the area and
some flowers would be under the bushes, but not covered. Other areas are
completely open. This area gets a lot of natural water from rainfall due
to a storm pipe being nearby, but I've never seen the area "drowned" in
water. I'm trying to achieve the look of a "blanket" of blooms out front
and the contrast of the white asylum and blue with a small amount of
yellow in the forget-me-not's would look good up against so much
greenery. Approx. how much area will a packet of seeds cover? Again, I'm
looking for a thick blanket look. (the area I am planting in is
irregular, looks a bit like a kidney bean cut in half with the straight
side being the outside wall. Perhaps two feet in depth and maybe 6 feet
long)

The directions are not great, so should I just sprinkle them in the soil
and cover them lightly with dirt and water? what's the best way to go?
I'm thinking it might be a bit too late to start them indoors and I
don't really have a place to put them where they would get substantial
light for growing.

Thanks
Darby
