Jim Spencer says it could be 28 or so tonight ... what steps should be
taken to freeze protect a newly planted Monterrey oak? Before
planting Monday, it was in a 5-gallon pot; it is now heavily mulched.
Would wrapping some soft of blanket around it do more harm than good?

You really don't need to do anything. It will be fine. If you feel
the need to do something, just make sure that it isn't in need of
water - which it really shouldn't be if you watered it well Monday.

What Whit said. :-)

Thanks for the responses! The little oak seems no worse for the wear,
and it got a lot colder here (SW Austin) than expected. When I went
to bed at midnight, the outside thermometer said 22, and it probably
dropped a few more degrees before the sun came up.
