this past winter was my first in keeping lilies over the winter.

All I did in the fall was snip the leaves and left the rhizome at the
bottom of the pond where it did not freeze.

Do I just wait and let nature take its course ?

Yes. As the water warms it will start to grow. All mine, here in zone 6, are
starting to push up small new leaves. This is a good time to divide and
transplant them.
