I'd mow it to the ground and cover it with CLEAR plastic, not black. The
clear will cook/burn/nuke it and the seeds as soon as you get some good
sunny days. Leave the plastic down until you no longer see green sprouting
up. The clear plastic is much more effective in killing things off than
black plastic. I wouldn't toss the rakings, after I'd mowed, into the
compost. You might run the risk of spreading it through your entire garden.
