372p., top edge gilt,, 307 b.w. illustrations in the text by the
author, 1st edition, A classic of Japanese Architecture & Design.
Small indistinct stain to margin over first 90 pages,slightly
shaken,some scuffing to top and bottom edge of spine,original owners
bookplate,otherwise a nice copy of this extremely scarce book. Perhaps
the most valuable study on late 19th century Japan, by a trained
scholar. This work covers in great detail city and village dwellings,
construction, frame work, carpenter"s tools, store houses, interiors,
mats, screens, tea-rooms,the Tokunoma, and other kinds of houses. The
various styles of roof covering, entrances and approaches, gardens,
ancient houses, the neighboring house. A wonderful study, artistic-
