IME, it is comet GF, not the fancier varieties that are the biggest

I've not had this experience Jan. My male goldfish ignored the female koi.
Once the water warms in early summer the male GF are no longer interested in
the females. The GF bred in spring mainly whereas the koi spaw several
times over the spring and summer. Maybe the location makes a difference.
