We use oil of pennyroyal to keep ants out of our house. Doesn't kill
just drives them out. 1 oz. last me about 4 years. I apply when I see
carpenter ant activity. A few dropper squeezes and they are gone. Don't
in jest or contact with skin. Has a pleasant mint smell that last a
few days that's why I use only in my basement along the sill.

I've not tried the below herbal deterrent yet.
