Default What's eating holes in leaves of Ligularia and Farfugium?

Newbie here. Planted a couple of Ligularia dentata (Leopard Plant) and a
Farfugium japonica last year. The latter is especially being eaten hard,
many holes and edges of leaves eaten. I suspect snails or slugs, bUt I
have used some Safer's slug pellets (these are the botanical, safer, less
toxic stuff). Does not seem to make any difference. Any ideas for
assistance appreciated.

Nematodes. If in real desperation before using those - definitely not after
- try watering on Sluggit every evening.
