In a case near where my parents live, the property owner applied to have some of his trees protected, and the council supplied the protection order. They were leyland cypresses. He did this just before he died, knowing that his children, and his neighbours, hated them. They were planted in a row either side of the path down to the front door, and made it increasingly impossible to walk down the path. Fortunately the council saw what had happened and lifted the orders.
