Looks like Ajuga reptans (Bugle) to me. Possibly a variety such as
"Caitlin's Giant", which is much bigger than the standard plant.

Read this after posting campanula and I think you may be right!! it does
look more like Ajuga


It does look rather like Ajuga, but it seems an odd location for it; I
thought Ajuga liked a bit of shade and damp. Perhaps the lack of
competition compensates for a non-ideal microclimate.
