A snail has actually now been observed to start climbing the stem (in order
to lay waste to the lovely new leaves on our caragan arboresecens - Siberian
Pea shrub). It met the coils of copper wire (the earth stripped out from
ring main cable) and it headed back down with a sad "people are so
untrusting" expression).
In short it worked.
