Default Compost / Bonfire Challenge

"'Mike'"wrote
I have 'volunteered' to sort out my daughter and son in laws compost /
bonfire area as shown in http://www.myalbum.com/Album-AIKAJZXZ.

The bonfire is the residue of lots of building work and you can see the
centre of a cable drum so there is no telling what else there is in there.

The gardens are just about finished landscaping, about 2 acres, so proper
'gardening' can now start.

Question. If I sort out all the obvious nasties, cable remains, nails,
tins etc, can the ash which remains go into the compost when I sort that
out on the left and put it into layers?

You cannot be sure the only thing burnt is plain wood, in fact that is very
unlikely, so I would collect it all up with the remaining rubbish and dump
the lot.
