Default Smar****er

om...
Local police have just given me a Smar****er kit to mark all my garden
equipment, workshop tools, indoor shiny things, and my Land Rover major
components. The sign that comes with needs marking as well, its solid
aluminium weighing 3 pounds, now that is bound to get nicked.

I thought that represents jolly good service as it was free. Thing is. Do
you think it will help if any of my stuff gets nicked?

It does absolutely no good. The police can't be bothered checking for that,
uV pens they also give away or even engraved details. It wears off quite
quickly and can easily be washed off and/or painted over.
The only thing it was good for when first introduced was showering people
with it - that's the only way it is detected. It wears off after a few
hours.
It was a total flop the first time around and abandoned, now it looks as
if the company is trying to re-invent it.
I would chain your garden furniture together and maybe to a fence!
Use vandal paint and also install some spiked plants and hedges which
are a legal version of barbed wire. I have them to stop people climbing
over a fence.

If you're easily impressed by something that is free (and does no good) get
along to one of the UK Freebie forums. You can spend hours sending off
for useless junk.
