Personally, I think it depends on the size of the area you need to work on. In a small area, pulling by hand is easier. But if you have a large garden to work on, pulling by hand gets to be TOO MUCH very quickly. So hoeing is a good choice then. Of course, the best choice is to just get your husband to do it!
