I've just had mine refused for an online payment so checked with my bank's
security people. It was used to try to 1 penny through a particular outlet
as a test so has now been stopped altogether. At least I know the system
works but I wonder if they ever track down who was doing it!

I have been selling and buying over the Internet for many years and
have had numerous credit card problems with both buyers and my cards.
I moved all my transactions to PayPal a couple of years ago and
haven't had a problem since.

I too have been impressed with the online back up and we use them for all
payments to us.

My son sold something on e-bay via PayPal. 4 weeks afterwards the owner of the
card alleged misuse of her credit card. The item was delivered to her house by
registered mail, it was signed for, the item was not returned. A copy of the
signed receipt was available for all to see. It took PayPal 3 months to
resolve
this obvious attempted fraud.

Unfortunately there are always some who will try to beat whatever system
there is. This one doesn't sound too bright, it must be said!
Someone working here has just told me that her family got caught in some
Nigerian scam whereby they somehow used others phone numbers to make calls
all over the place. She got a phone bill £400 higher than normal and while
they were waiting for the Ombudsman to hear the case, BT cut them off.
