Good article.

Vandana Shiva goes deeply into this subject in her book "Stolen Harvest:
The Hijacking of the Global Food Supply"

as well as noting that small producers are being driven from the market
and that monoculture export crops leave us all helpless before
corporate greed.

GMOs in America are UNTESTED (except by the manufacturer) and UNLABELED.
Welcome to the guinea pig generation (

Besides environmental pollution, and the potential of creating
toxicity in previously healthy plants, GMOs can give rise to:

allergic reactions, like when Brazil nut genes are spliced into a soy
plant or just the weird proteins that are made when two sets of
biological machinery are jammed together.

antibiotic resistance, antibiotic markers used in gene splicing
could lead to creation of antibiotic resistant bacteria. This when
hospitals are already running into more and more resistant
bacteria.

immunosuppression, in 2000 a researcher in England (Dr. Pusztai)
discovered that rats that ate Bt potatoes showed detrimental effects on
their organ development, body metabolism, and immune function.

nutrient value, genetic modification can change nutrient levels
of fruits and vegetables.

The important fact here is that FDA scientists have warned the FDA of
all these potential problems but the FDA has ignored their staff's
warnings. At least 60% of processed foods have GMO ingredients in
them and the FDA will not order them to be labeled.
