Default Why are the mosquitoes more rampant after August?

Dear Everyone:

I live in southern Virginia, and I frequently walk along a trail
through a swampy area beside the Chesapeake Bay. From April to August,
I seldom notice mosquitoes. But beginning from late September, the
mosquitoes become very aggressive and rampant, so much so that I have
to constantly slap my exposed arms and legs to drive them away. If I
stop the slapping for five seconds, I can get a bite. And this
situation can continue into November and December.

Could anyone tell why the mosquitoes behave like this when the weather
is getting cooler and colder and the mosquitoes are supposed to be
dying?

Thank you for reading and replying!

Roland
