Default October Petunias - DSC00395-Edit.jpg

My major complaint about petunias is that they get tired and leggy and
sorry-looking rather early in the season. I sometimes see petunia beds
that look nice late, but I have never figured out the secret.

This year when my potted petunias started looking sad, around the
second week of August, I sheared them back to a few inches (buds and
all) and fed and watered them regularly to try to get them to recover.
It took a good 6-weeks, but by late September they started blooming
again and now they are as strong and happy as they were in early July.
We will probably get a killing frost soon, but until then they are
adding a nice memory of summer to a sparse and fading garden.
