The message
from "BOFH" contains these words:

I started out with demon, and the world of Usenet, in 1994,but moved on
fairly quickly.

I started out with Zetnet about six months after they began - 13? 14?
15? years ago, and I'm still with them. Unlike you, I liked the
DOS-based SMTP, and while it is now in the Windows environment, it is
just as good as ever it was - plus you can use any other news/mail
reader you want, have the SMTP mailbox, POP3, and (I believe) a webmail
account too. The last is probably due to the number of failed ISPs
Zetnet has caught as they fell.

My reason at the time was that newer ISP's were providing all in one
windows
installation, and pop3 mail....sounds a bit silly now but demon tried to
convince users that SMTP in their dos based DIS package was the way to go
and to ignore all that fancy windows stuff.

Well, it is.

It's far superior to POP3 or webmail, and much more secure.
