Is most watch-able. Someone cleaned up Kip Anderson, found a funky cook and

When did this happen????

well actually to go back as far as JIM CROCKET??? Geezus!! Roger
Swain, Jim Wilson, the guests of Tova Martin, Barbara
Damrosch......all of that, even with Peter and ?? (brain fart here)
the Pacific Northwest guest they always had........THAT was in the
golden time of Victory Garden.......and yes, I loved Jim Crockett, he
was the first I saw on the program. Only because I FINALLY have
television capabilities where we live because I couldn't stand not
even being able to pull in the PBS station without lots of
"snow" (this was because apparently the PBS station in Knoxville which
is pretty far from me here in Greeneville which is considered part of
the "Tri-Cities" part of upper northeastern Tennessee, their analog
transmitter was hit by lightening in June and they had been allowed to
transmit their programs in the new HD.......sigh........I missed the
abilities to get PBS clearly and beautifully through my Dtv which I'd
relied upon for these 15 years. Living in an area where I couldn't
just plug in my t.v. and get basic channels including the PBS was a
frustration only those who experience it understand.........getting
back though, I haven't had the opportunity to view the newer Victory
Garden. I have though noticed some of the Russell Morass crew's since
his leaving Victory Garden and some of his signature programs on Ask
This Old House (specifically Roger the landscaping guy that Roger
Swain called in for large jobs) Nope, my all time favorites on
Victory was hands down Roger Swain and Jim Wilson....and the rest of
the regulars.

I adore Paul James, but can't find where Gardening by the Yard is at
since HGTV has sadly changed it's good format to the stuff I'm just
not interest in. Yes, I like to know how to do some things about my
house and interior, but not shoved so much into my face. It would be
nice since the Food Network spun off of HGTV if they'd spin off a
GARDENING Network for us gardening junkies and run ALL the gardening
shows. I even miss Gardener's Journal outa Canada, Erica Glasner's
Gardener's Diary which could re-run even today and I'd enjoy watching
them, record them on c.d instead of the VHS I lost the two boxes of
during the divorce..........and even pick up where the show ended and
do some follow up's even if some of the original show's gardeners have
gone on to their rest, but to re-run the shows, and show how things
changed for either the best or even the worst as it's something we've
all come across at some time or other. I recall one of our gardening
neighbors here on the newsgroup losing a home she'd gardened for over
20 years due to the property not selling to them and all her work
being destroyed. We've heard or seen or experienced this ourselves
either personally or indirectly and it wouldn't be out of line to show
this on follow up's to her incredible show. Yep, I know she had a
child, but surely with the passion she had..........and all those
gardening shows I watched on the new Discovery Channel back years
ago........Backyard Gardening. Gardening Naturally with Barbara
Damrosch and her husband, Elliot Coleman who seriously gardened in
Maine and despite that I didnt' live in Maine but in Nashville, and
didn't have access to harvest and scrounging oyster shells and seaweed
for my compost piles and didn't always need walls of water to garden
four seasons, I learned huge amounts from these people. And there was
a show I adored but was brief because the satellite carrier dropped
the different PBS called The Perennial Gardener and it was
awesome........to have a Gardening channel would suit me fine. as I'm
sure you agree.........

To this day, because someone updated my subscription, I still get
Garden Design magazine, even though I'm not interested in the
"furniture" and designer aspects of how the magazine has gone.
They've dropped the neat quotations on the bottom of the pages that
related to the articles until midway through the magazine, but someone
gave me a lot of subscription time and I still get it. I deliberatly
keep my subscriptions to Horticulture and Fine Gardening and Green
Prints/The Weeder's Digest because they are informative and still
incredible publications that I learn from and enjoy reading. Now
because of my mind set that has always been there, James has
discovered Grist magazine and I'll subscribe to it for us, and
consider even returning to Mother Earth News......I'll never get
Organic Gardening because of how it radically changed, but I learned
from it due in part because of how hands on it always had been,
through the editorship of Mike McGrath (who has this neat NPR program
called You betcha Garden! that I remember to listen to on Saturday's
now since I live where I can HEAR it) and death of Robert
Rodale........

Things sometimes change for the better or worse, and we just hafta
take it in stride.
Good to see you Cheryl! I'm winter gardening (another great HGTV
gardening show as I recall.....was it "The Winter Gardener?" and it
was how to keep things that had to come in for the winter going well?
I recall seeing an episode or several about houseplants and
such......enjoyed it because I still have tropicals and cacti and
succulents that satisfy my gardening soul during the winter
months........in fact, I have a "desert rose" (can't remember the
Latin name, so don't flame me right now, I'll locate the name and
throw it out there if I can later on) blooming on the back porch and a
spiney agavae that is sending out two bloom spikes out of
season....the back porch where it lives with all the other cacti and
succulents and clivia's is cold....I might have to actually bring in a
few to keep from them being TOO cold! (it's drafty and despite facing
east, south and west with windows on all three sides, the draftiness
is a concern for me.........I need to invest in a small kerosene
heater.......)

madgardener (maddie) now gardening up in the greene bowl, surrounded
by the Cherokee National Forest in an old historical town just off of
main street in a rental.........g

Morash. The old Victory Garden lived on for many years. It
transmogrified a few years ago and wasn't as nice. This year the
nursery that housed it closed. The whole piece of land will
become just another hideous development. I really hope they save
the original (TV) Victory Garden as a little oasis.

Actually my daughter took some photos of the place on the last day
before it closed. I hope she will share them someday.

I liked the older version of Victory Garden better also. However, if you
have cable tv try and see if you have the CREATE channel. They have
several garden shows: Victory Garden, Garden Smart, P. Allen Smith and
Cultivating Life. The only one I record each week to DVD is Victory
Garden.

I record about 5 hours of shows on one DVD disk each week at home and
watch them at work during my lunch time on a laptop computer. It works
for me
