Depends on how good they were to start with, the good ones are expensive but
do last a very long time. Doubt you would find them at any GC, you would
need to shop at a specialist.
You mentioned a black cylinder, I think those are some of the cheaper ones
and I've had a problem with them in the past where, after only a few years,
they got weaker and weaker and slower and slower at opening, presumably the
oil leaks out.
Nothing lasts for ever though.
