I know - it's v. frustrating. I had exactly the same sort of situation a
couple of years ago. I believe however that most have a label of some
sorts .... 9 litre etc.. So it's possible to work things out. Or
conversely, put 4 pints/8 pints etc. into the thing and mark on the
outside where each amount reaches. A bit primitive I agree, but it
suffices. If you wish really accurate contents I suggest you opt for a
spray with clear plastic container; they are almost invariably marked on
the outside down to pretty small volumes. And, provided they are looked
after (i.e. clean the nozzles etc. every year and store out of sunlight)
they last for a long time.
