These are useless to trees as compounds, but not necessarily to other
plants, especially after decomposition by bacteria and/or fungi, and the
leaf-mould will have nutrients a-plenty.

Leaf-mold, OTOH, is USAnian, therefore Not British[TM] and not so good.
