Default Ideas for plants under pine tree

Hi, I live in the Northwest, (zone 8, I believe). I have an area next
to my driveway that has a pine tree. The ground is currently just
pine needles but I would like to plant something there. I don't know
what would be the best plant choices for an area that gets a little
morning light, shade the rest of the day and lots of pine needles.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Jennifer

Pine roots are close to the surface and LARGE. My suggestion is give
some thought to a couple of chairs or benches and a collection of
attractive pots. If the tree is in a location where that wouldn't
work may a vining type groundcover. One that you could mound some
soil for the root system and let it run to cover the area, there are
several that would work. My favorite is jasmine.
