rabbits in the compost

I always thought that rabbits would give birth in burrows, we have a
fair number in the paddock and they all live in burrows.
American rabbits often nest in sheltered depressions in the ground and in
brushpiles. Both are pretty exposed; we used to have a cat who in the
spring bunny season would go out in the morning and return in a few minutes
with a teenage rabbit for breakfast.
