The whole point of that particular recipe was that the (live) birds flew

off
when the pie was opened, surely?


One suspects it was a little undercooked.


First, cook pastry crust. Second, place live birds in dish. Third,
cover birds and dish with pastry crust. Four, find King. Six, open
pie. ;-)
