i have a 3yr old peony tree in a container i feed it every 2 weeks but
it is growing very small the leaves are only a third of what they
should be am i doing anything wrong any advice please-
How big is the container?
the container is 14 inches in cicumference by 12 inches high
That may be the problem - you have bonsai tree paeony ;-)
OK, it's not very old yet (do you mean it is 3 years old from seed, or 3
years from buying it as a plant?), so maybe it's just youth. But I think
one way or another it's not getting enough nutrient. Have you changed
the soil at all in that 3 years? It's difficult to keep the soil in good
condition using fertiliser alone. But tree paeonies are big plants, and
I wouldn't think that container is large enough, either in width or
depth.
