Smile Large Lawn beginner

Hi everyone, I am new at this forum stuff so please be patient with me!
I have always had a lawn that I have cared for but have recently moved to a fairly large Garden of an acre and it hasn't had anything more than a cut for many years. The garden backs onto the Village meadow and is south facing but with Large trees surrounding boundry (which are beautiful) The lawn has several problems that I have not ever had to tackle before. The Grass seems shallow rooted, it has lots of Clover in it as well as moss It is very uneven in places having to be very careful with the Tractor mower when cutting the lawn in certain places. I also have Ground elder and bindweed in certain area's of the Lawn (as well as the Boarders of which I am trying to control0 The Lawn is such a massive area and I don't know when to start, and I suppose frightened of making a boob!!!
I try to not use Chemicals if I can help it except for the Ground Elder problem in the Boarders. Money is very tight . Can I feed it with Blood Fish and bone will that do any good? I want to thicken it up get rid of as many weeds as possible and have a healthy lawn I am not worried about having it perfect ! I suppose I should say that my wonderful Garden is in Bristol in the UK.

Many thanks in advance Deb
