Default forcynthia? Forsythia!!!

we had really old forsythia trying to compete with overgrown brush.
I whacked everything to the ground.
I bought 5 different varieties of forsythia hardy to our zone 5 and planted them to
fill in the row on the 2nd terrace.
I put fences around them to prevent the rabbits from whacking them in the winter.
for the last several springs two of the new ones have bloomed profusely every spring.
I planted a PJM rhodo under a big picture window so that my mother looks thru the
purple flowers out onto the yellow forsythia down 2 terraces away.
I havent had time to whack out the old forsythia and take cuttings from the new to
move into the row.
forsythia blooms (I think) on newer wood, so really old wood needs to be removed
right after flowering to stimulate new wood growth.
